THE REPRODUCTION CYCLE
The reproduction cycle is when female and male emperor penguins have chicks. From January to March the penguins set out for the feeding season. In April they walk 96.561km to 160.93km to the rookery [a rocky area where the penguins bread.] Then in May it is the mating season. During the months of June and July, the males incubate their eggs [sit on them to keep the eggs warm] while the females set out to find food. In August the eggs hatch and the females return from feeding. In September to October the females feed the chicks and the males go to feed. This part of the cycle repeats 6 more times. In October to November, the chicks form small groups to keep warm. In December, the adults leave, the chicks fledge [develop wings to swim not fly] and the ice breaks up.
